Publisher Description
Persephone is the Goddess of Spring by title only. The truth is, since she was a little girl, flowers have shriveled at her touch. After moving to New Athens, she hopes to lead an unassuming life disguised as a mortal journalist.
Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favorite bets are rumored to be impossible.
After a chance encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Dead and the terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever.
The bet does more than expose Persephone's failure as a goddess, however. As she struggles to sow the seeds of her freedom, love for the God of the Dead grows—and it's forbidden.
Contains mature themes.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
This urban fantasy proves that a hellish romance can be quite steamy. In a world where Greek gods and mortals live side by side, Persephone—the naive goddess of spring—is newly on her own and free from her overbearing mother, Demeter, when she meets a cunning nightclub owner. The impresario happens to be Hades, the slick god of the Underworld, and he soon gets her to sign a seemingly impossible contract. Scarlett St. Clair concocts a fun, imaginative world, with Zeus owning a marketing agency and Apollo enjoying success as a rock star. The intense sexual tension between the initially innocent Persephone and sultry Hades is next level, with fiery words leading to positively smoldering encounters. Narrator Meg Sylvan’s bubbly enthusiasm (and hilarious take on the characters’ witty banter) brings just the right energy to this wild romp.

The guilty pleasure you’ve been waiting for!
My high school reading list would have been significantly better if this was how we learned about Hades and Persephone. College journalist, Persephone, finds herself in a bit of a bind after a night out takes an unexpected turn. This risqué urban retelling of the King and Queen of the Underworld paints is the guilty pleasure you’ve been waiting for. There’s drama, action, and a whole lot of steam.
Deliciously divine!
This author not only did amazing amounts of research to create such a mythologically accurate story, she created the spiciest & best retelling of Hades and Persephone.
•slow-burn.
•He fell first & hard.
•Touch her & I'll burn this world
This will forever be one of my favorites. Permanently etched into my skin & soul.
I would say 3.75🫶
It was a slow start but I loved the story. The SPICE level was crazy near the end and sometimes thought of it as just thrown in there. Didn’t make a difference in the relationship.
