Captivating!
Can anything good come out of having a horrendous childhood? Special agents, Taylor Collins and Nate Gentry, are living proof that the answer is yes. Nate was the oldest sibling in his family. He tried to shield his two younger brothers from their father’s swinging belt and fists. Although they all endured abuse, Nate suffered the most. When his two youngest brothers found love and married, he was happy for them. Nate, however, was afraid to love. He feared that he was like his father. And the last thing, Nate ever wanted to do, was to unleash his anger on his family. So Nate avoided getting close to any woman, until Taylor Collins. She was his best friend. The two of them shared pieces of their troubled past with each other. Nate didn’t want anything to ruin their cherished friendship, so he fought his attraction, to Taylor, until he just couldn’t do it anymore.
Taylor regretted having pushed Nate into a physical relationship. They had a serial killer to nail, and their strained relationship was not helping them focus. Unfortunately, a piece of evidence that linked the killer to Taylor’s deceased mother made the case very personal for her. And, as the stakes rose, so did the agent’s tempers.
Ace of Spades is a well written Romantic Suspense novel. Although I felt that a little less romance would have made the book more realistic, I found the story compelling and enjoyable.
