Seventeen-year-old Hajime Nagumo is your average, everyday otaku. However, his simple life of pulling all-nighters and sleeping in school is suddenly turned upside down when he, along with the rest of his class, is summoned to a fantasy world! They're treated like heroes and tasked with the duty of saving the human race from utter extinction. But what should have been any otaku's wet dream quickly turns into Hajime's nightmare. While the rest of his class are blessed with godlike powers, Hajime's job, Synergist, only has a single transmutation skill. Ridiculed and bullied by his classmates for being weak, he soon finds himself in despair. Will he be able to survive in this dangerous world of monsters and demons with only a glorified blacksmith's level of strength?

This is my second audiobook and it’s of the first light novel I’ve ever read. While I have read books and novels in the past but none of them were Japanese light novels before. I first read it after watching the first season of the anime back in 2020 just before lockdown. And before I knew it I went through the entire series of light novels that were available at the time. I’ve read others since then and have reread this book at least twice along with the others. It was interesting hearing it read to me and by some of the English voice actors. Matt Shipman did a particularly great job especially with growls and roars sounding very feral. The other narrator, who voiced Tio in the anime, does a good job narrating but all the growls and roars don’t sound quite right; I guess some people are better at sounds than others, I might be as good as her or not, never tried with a recording it. I think I have given the series a five star rating because of how much I liked it. Honestly though I didn’t think much of the manga but I might pick it up again because I like the story; I would recommend the light novels and the anime long before the manga (it just doesn’t feel as alive as the other two). I do hope to hear the series on more audiobooks.
