I find the book quiet good as fiction.

This is a good book and it is read well. Tim Curry is perfect for this series and I look forward to hearing the reptile room.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
I cannot believe the official "review" that is posted on this site for this audiobook. A completely biased view, and whoever wrote it should be reviewing strictly for Disney productions. This is an intelligent recording, both educational and remarkably creative. The children in the story may come up against a series of obstacles, but they are smart, compassionate, polite, industrious and creative. If you want stunted vocabulary and stories about butterflies and princesses, this may not be for you. If you want your children to learn and think for themselves, this is worth a listen.
