In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare.
In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
With her witty, insightful memoir, Michelle Obama proves that she’s a masterful storyteller. She begins her story with a poignant reflection on her post–White House life, before reflecting back on her early years in a working-class family on Chicago’s South Side. With honesty, warmth, and wisdom, Obama talks about her early challenges as a black woman lawyer and her decision to have children via in vitro fertilization. There’s also plenty of affectionate dish about her husband. Her unselfconscious narration drives home her inspiring relatability, convincing us that we could be friends with Michelle. (But we’re also content for her to remain a role model and a source of hope.)
Customer Reviews
Great book! A must read!
Potential readers/listeners - please don’t take the reviews of the angry, triggered conservatives and Trump supporters seriously. It really takes some unbelievable amount of self hate (yep, SELF hate) to come on here and try to bring Michelle’s work down with a measly audiobook review. Please just stop this desperate madness and hate. She doesn’t care, you look dumb, move on!
This is a wonderful book and it’s so awesome to see it be read by Michelle herself. So proud of her for putting her story out there for us all to read/hear. Not only as the past FLOTUS, but as a woman of color as well. Speaking HER truth and HER story. An inspiration to all of us, still. And forever!
When they go low, we go high ♥️
Either You Read or You Don’t
To those who come here driven by jealousy, envy, hate or racism, or maybe all together to comment dirt on our beloved and principled former FLOTUS Michelle Obama’s biography or talk egregious on her personally, manipulating words and creating useless arguments I say, either you read the book or you don’t. It’s just a book, written by a good person for us to spend precious times with them, reading their words and walking away with some family values, the importance of the love, respect and friendship in between spouses, the value of hard work and its lasting rewards, and overall life wisdom that might help strengthen us to stay on the right path when things get hard or redirect us back to it again if we slipped out or get drifted away one day. That’s the purpose of reading this book. No need for showing us how mired in the mud you are. Thanks!🙏
Who would read this crap
The title says it all...what a waste of paper and ink
