In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare.
In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
With her witty, insightful memoir, Michelle Obama proves that she’s a masterful storyteller. She begins her story with a poignant reflection on her post–White House life, before reflecting back on her early years in a working-class family on Chicago’s South Side. With honesty, warmth, and wisdom, Obama talks about her early challenges as a black woman lawyer and her decision to have children via in vitro fertilization. There’s also plenty of affectionate dish about her husband. Her unselfconscious narration drives home her inspiring relatability, convincing us that we could be friends with Michelle. (But we’re also content for her to remain a role model and a source of hope.)

all the bad reviews is due to racism and hiding behind a computer! How insanely miserable.
Just a girl from the South Side of Chicago
This book answers the question I had for the time she was in the White House... “What is she thinking?” So many things happened during the Obama administration and after.
It’s encouraging and comforting. This book is outright calling people to task at some points in the read, but always circles back to hope. Ms. Obama does not shy away from listing her accomplishments but not in a bragging way. She also goes deeper and explores her bouts with insecurities and fears.
This is a good read for someone struggling to make sense of life and is doubting themselves for not having “arrived.” The message from the book is that “becoming” is a lifelong journey and we never completely have it all figured out... and there is no need to.
Forever FLOTUS Michelle Obama
Many of us can relate to her, those who came from working class parents who encouraged growth and allowed their children to become, this book is everything.
