When a recently widowed woman returns to her home town, will resuming a love affair with a high-school sweetheart bring back her joy?

Shattered by the loss of her husband, Maggie struggled each day to put her grief behind her— to face life again and to be there for her teenaged daughter. When she returned to her Wisconsin hometown, she never expected to feel a spark of longing for her old high school sweetheart. Eric's marriage to a career-driven woman had left him childless and unhappy. Seeing Maggie again filled him with hope.

The memory of Maggie and Eric' s young love blossoms into an affair that could shake both of their lives and challenge everything they believed about loving each other. Can they follow a dream from the past? Or had they missed the chance of a lifetime?

Who thought this was a good idea?

I have long held a deep respect for LaVyrle's attention to detail. As you read her stories, the characters become real and you can see and hear them. You know them, and you care. The setting becomes real as well and takes on an importance that makes the story come alive. I have read Bittersweet many times, coming back to it every summer as one comes back to Door County during the tourist season to visit. I should have known there was going to be a problem when I saw the entire book had been condensed to less than four hours. I cannot image Ms Spencer would be pleased with this version. The narrator seemed to miss the heart of the story entirely as she rushed from beginning to end and the final result was much more bitter than sweet. I am very sorry that I spent my 17.95. This story really deserved a much better effort all the way around.
