Publisher Description
Set against the backdrop of the Age of Exploration, Black Flags, Blue Waters reveals the dramatic and surprising history of American piracy's "Golden Age"-spanning the late 1600s through the early 1700s-when lawless pirates plied the coastal waters of North America and beyond. Bestselling author Eric Jay Dolin illustrates how American colonists at first supported these outrageous pirates in an early display of solidarity against the Crown, and then violently opposed them. Through engrossing episodes of roguish glamour and extreme brutality, Dolin depicts the star pirates of this period, among them towering Blackbeard, ill-fated Captain Kidd, and sadistic Edward Low, who delighted in torturing his prey. Also brilliantly detailed are the pirates' manifold enemies, including colonial governor John Winthrop and evangelist Cotton Mather. Upending popular misconceptions and cartoonish stereotypes, Dolin provides this wholly original account of the seafaring outlaws whose raids reflect the precarious nature of American colonial life.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Learn how the Golden Age of Piracy impacted colonial America in this fascinating history. Eric Jay Dolin wipes away the biggest myths and misconceptions about well-known (and not-so-well-known) legends like Blackbeard and Dixie Bull, whose violent raids across the East Coast were much more destructive than so many books and movies would have you believe. We had no idea that early American leaders supported these raiders just to spite their British overlords (and maybe because pirate ships were surprisingly democratic), leading to a rather sticky political situation. Paul Brion’s narration captures the riveting terror of each tale, making it easy to understand how so many of these infamous pirate captains became almost-mythic figures. If you’re ready to go beyond Captain Hook and Jack Sparrow, meet the real baddies of the sea in Black Flags, Blue Waters.

Looking For An Understanding…
…you’ll find it here within the pages of Black Flags, Blue Waters. So, it was ok for individuals to take (steal) from others and the government officials whom were to stop it - looked the other way to line their own pockets. Politically, when will someone stand up and say, No, you cannot do that and if you do, you will not get away with doing such a thing!!! I’m buying the hard-copy version now; so good to now understand and know the truth. Read On-Rock On!
