Engaging story -but- Excessive profanity. Robotic female narrator.
Nice story and world building but with the main male character (Ray) the author had him using the f-word so frequently, it detracted from his intelligence and character believability.
The excessive profanity (particularly the “f”-word) was a painful assault to my mind as a reader. It diminished a main character that I wanted to feel close to, but struggled to due to his redundantly foul mouth.
As an otherwise creative storyteller, I’m confident the author could have used her obvious imagination to help him possess a better vocabulary with creative expressions for his various emotional responses other than the f-word. It was a verbal assault to have to work through just to get to the essence of the character.
Also, sadly, in regards to the narrator choices, the female narrator was tough to listen to. Her phrasing was so halting, she sounded like a robot. It was painfully difficult to bond with the main female character.
So for future reference, I hope she gets a different female narrator and gets more creative and less of a potty mouth for her main characters.
