Blood Work

Michael Connelly has written another 5 star book. From chapter one till the end, I enjoyed every second. I cannot compliment the author without mentioning the narrator, Dick Hill. He was exceptional and in a category by himself. I would definitely recommend this book and all the other books that Michael Connelly wrote for mystery readers. I think you will enjoy them all.

Skip the movie, read the book - or better yet have Dick Hill read it for you

This is coming from someone who almost never likes crime drama or murder mystery. I came by this book by chance, and started a listen when I was almost completely out of other options. I knew nothing about the author or the book; I just started listening. SO GLAD I did.

The book was fantastic. The story unfolds with new twists and turns all over the place, just moving right along, as you watch McCaleb work through the case and follow the clues and his intuition. I thought it was a perfect book for someone who's just getting into this genre. It was a little dated at some points (like the detailed description of how to use Windows 3.1, which I thought was pretty funny now), but on the whole very, very good.

And I can't say enough about Dick Hill as the narrator. He turned in a truly inspired reading, nailed all the voices and accents (there's a good amount of Spanish and Russian, and he hit them both perfectly), but most importantly he wasn't just reading. He literally breathes life into the dialog, sighing, laughing, stuttering... a few times I couldn't even envision how a certain line of dialog was written, because he reads it so realistically. I'm definitely going in search of more books read by Dick Hill, and I don't even care what they're about. Dude could read the phone book and I'd be hooked.

Connelly and Dick Hill Combo

How can anyone go wrong with this combination. Connelly gives you a great Mystery, and Hill brings it to life.
