""My life, as you will read, has taken me from one cult to another. BRAVE is the story of how I fought my way out of these cults and reclaimed my life. I want to help you do the same."" -Rose McGowan
A revealing memoir and empowering manifesto – A voice for generations
Rose McGowan was born in one cult and came of age in another, more visible cult: Hollywood.
In a strange world where she was continually on display, stardom soon became a personal nightmare of constant exposure and sexualization. Rose escaped into the world of her mind, something she had done as a child, and into high-profile relationships. Every detail of her personal life became public, and the realities of an inherently sexist industry emerged with every script, role, public appearance, and magazine cover. The Hollywood machine packaged her as a sexualized bombshell, hijacking her image and identity and marketing them for profit.
Hollywood expected Rose to be silent and cooperative and to stay the path. Instead, she rebelled and asserted her true identity and voice. She reemerged unscripted, courageous, victorious, angry, smart, fierce, unapologetic, controversial, and real as f*ck.
BRAVE is her raw, honest, and poignant memoir/manifesto—a no-holds-barred, pull-no-punches account of the rise of a millennial icon, fearless activist, and unstoppable force for change who is determined to expose the truth about the entertainment industry, dismantle the concept of fame, shine a light on a multibillion-dollar business built on systemic misogyny, and empower people everywhere to wake up and be BRAVE.
Includes two original songs by Rose McGowan.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Just as outrageous, inspiring, and uncensored as we'd hoped she’d be, Rose McGowan reads her memoir like a sledgehammer. Every observation is delivered with her trademark sardonic wit, whether she's deconstructing her childhood in a cult, her teen years as a runaway, or the horrific abuse she suffered at the hands of Hollywood power brokers. We're tempted to say McGowan is fearless, but hearing her voice waver as she details the worst of her experiences tells us she’s figured out how to remain vulnerable and steadfast. She speaks truth to power in spite of her fear, earning her memoir's all-caps title—and then some.

THE WINDOW!!!!!.
I have no words for the rawness and reality check this book takes you on, if you are happy with society & conforming to social norms this book will shakes you awake and you might not like that, it doesn’t baby you or hold your hand, it holds your face to the window forcing you to look in!!, while you watch everything that is happening a window you MIGHT NOT BE READY FOR!!!,
Many thanks to Rose for writing this!
I read this book in hopes of learning more about the agencies that were hired to surveil and sabotage Rose. The book was so well written that I understand why she might not have discussed them. There are many chains supplying vulnerable women and boys to sexual predators and hostile foreign powers. Hollywood is one, academia another. I recommend this so highly to anyone who feels like a product caught up in an organized production they don’t yet understand. And of course to all young people who may still avoid the situation.
