"Actor Soler's lively narration swiftly draws listeners into the magical spectacle at the center of Garber's YA novel" — Publishers Weekly, best audiobooks of 2017
Welcome, welcome to Caraval — Stephanie Garber’s sweeping tale of two sisters who escape their ruthless father when they enter the dangerous intrigue of a legendary game.
Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.
But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.

The best so many good parts and lines
Torturous read for me….
I thought the idea for the book was great. So I was bummed when I could barely make it through the whole thing. The only reason I stuck it out was because I paid money for it. With almost every emotion that the characters had being given an associated color or smell and then described at nauseam, it drug on and on and I couldn’t take anymore of feeling like I was listening to a therapy session with all the, today I woke up feeling cheery, like the color yellow and the smell of citrus and then a paragraph devoted to describing how yellow and citrus are cheery things…. It could also have been partly to blame on the less then great narration, or the fact that I just finished a Sara J. Maas binge and for me it’s nearly impossible to top her works. So maybe it was just bad timing, but I was bored throughout and don’t feel the desire to explore any of her other books :(.
Truly amazing and beautiful!!
This book really brought me into this magical world of Caraval! It made me feel so many emotions; as well as kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat until the end of the book. I also think the character development and plot of the story are creative and unique! I cannot wait to continue reading the other books in this series as well as by this author!
