Fire captain Cameron McClain dropped into my life with as much subtlety as an unsolicited d*ck pic. I shouldn’t be attracted to him, but I am. He’s too old for me, too alpha for my tastes, and too bossy in the bedroom. Though, I have to admit he knows exactly how to use his...firehose.
I’m not interested in a forever kind of relationship, but he’s down for whatever I’m willing to give. Our arrangement is perfect. At least that's how it begins. I never wanted the happily ever after, but he’s just so tempting.
The smart choice would be to end things before they combust, but for some reason I can’t push Cam away. The harder I try, the harder he - well, you get the picture.
I wish things were different. I want to be someone worthy of his devotion. But the secrets I hold close, they don’t just eat me up inside, they destroy anyone who gets too close.
So, I won’t fall in love. Simple, right?
Wrong. So freaking wrong. I don’t just fall. I crash and burn for this man. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Turns out I’m not the only one telling lies and keeping secrets, and his are enough to rip us apart forever.
Caught in the Lies can be listened to as a stand-alone, or start with Callie's story in Caught in the Flames.
This really went in a direction that I didn’t realize it would go. Few times am I surprised over stories but this one got me.
While this is an older man/younger woman story I never realized it until one of the characters joked or blabbed about it. This Cameron and Jills story and I was glad to get it. They seemed so outrageous in the last story that I wondered about them. Cameron is not what I expected....well he is at first but then he smooths out to become a great guy. Jill seemed pretty mouthy in the last book but in here she seems more subdued. Actually almost jittery at times. Maybe because of her commitment fear? Or something else?
I enjoyed this story as a whole. The characters are full and rounded nicely. The girls are still ridiculously fun with their conversations. Plus it’s was nice to see Callie/Ash and Alisha and see how they are doing.
My only question with the book. What was the deal with Ryan and his sister?? It’s like Cam didn’t like them but never figured out what the deal is....other than he said he used to work with him. I kinda felt they were unnecessary additions.
Savannah Peachwood did another amazing job with this story. Jason Clarke added some parts that I was confused about at first (voice memos of Cam) I just didn’t understand their purpose in the beginning but later I understood it. This is my second book by Kacey Shea. She continues to give an wonderful story with these characters that always amaze me.
