Celephais

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. In a dream, a man who has lost everything walks again through the streets of a city he first saw as a boy: Celephaïs, in the Valley of Ooth-Nargai beyond the Tanarian Hills, where the sky is turquoise, the bronze gates gleam, and nobody grows any older.

He wakes in grey London, the last of an old family, his money gone and his name meaning nothing. So he goes looking for the city again. He tries sleep, then drugs, then stranger methods, abandoning the waking world piece by piece in pursuit of a place he is certain is real. And in the end, somewhere above the cliffs of Innsmouth, the dream comes to collect him.

Written in 1920, Celephaïs is one of the loveliest and saddest stories in H.P. Lovecraft’s Dream Cycle: a tale of escapism, lost childhood and the terrible price of a beautiful vision, from the master of weird fiction.
