National Bestseller
Soon to be a major motion picture starring Tom Holland and directed by the Russo Brothers. A young medic returns from deployment in Iraq to two things: the woman he loves, and the opioid crisis sweeping across the Midwest.
In this “miracle of literary serendipity” (The Washington Post), after finding himself deep in the thrall of heroin addiction, the soldier arrives at what seems like the only logical solution: robbing banks.
Written by a singularly talented, wildly imaginative debut novelist, Cherry is a bracingly funny and unexpectedly tender work of fiction straight from the dark heart of America.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
In Nico Walker’s debut novel, the path from bored college student to heroin-addicted bank robber is a straight shot. Cherry offers a searing portrait of modern America, introducing us to a nameless narrator who loses all interest in his studies and opts to join the army. It’s 2003, and this snap decision quickly finds him serving as a medic in the Iraq War and eventually coming home with PTSD. Walker’s antihero tries to keep his demons at bay via rapidly accelerating opiate use, which leaves him desperate enough to try anything to feed his addiction. Inspired by Walker’s own life story—he wrote this book while locked up in prison—this audiobook is both relatable and wildly entertaining. Narrator Jeremy Bobb’s breezy tone has the feeling of a friend spinning yarns over a few beers, even when he’s recounting the story’s most shockingly violent or fractured details. It’s no surprise that this dark and memorable story has been adapted into a movie (it stars Tom Holland!). Listen to the book before you watch it.

Gritty, Disturbing and Brilliant
"Cherry" by Nico Walker is a remarkable novel that delves deep into the tumultuous life of a troubled young man. The writing is brilliant, offering a gritty and sometimes disturbing portrayal of addiction. With a prominent military component, it provides a stark look at the harsh realities of war, revealing the difficulty and inhumanity experienced by soldiers. The protagonist's journey highlights how the military neither saved nor destroyed him but merely amplified existing troubles. This novel strips away the veneer surrounding both military service and addiction, offering an unflinching and insightful exploration. If you're ready to confront the raw truth behind these issues, "Cherry" is a must-read that will leave a lasting impact
