National Book Award–winning author Elizabeth Acevedo— a New York native born to Dominican immigrants—uses this real-world tragedy as the starting point for her powerful, emotionally complex novel. Clap When You Land follows the intertwined stories of a Dominican teen named Camino and an American teen named Yahaira, who discover that they’re half sisters when their father dies in the crash. Chapters alternate between the two girls, giving us beautifully intimate windows into their shared anguish as they come to terms with their father’s secrets. Camino and Yahaira’s utterly distinct personalities and voices are illuminated by Acevedo’s brilliant writing style. Camino’s more polished words (narrated elegantly by Melania-Luisa Marte) cut straight to her sadness, while Yahaira’s rough verbal explosions (narrated by Acevedo herself) reveal her anger. Clap When You Land deals with some of the hardest truths a person might ever confront, and it does so with so much depth and beauty. It’s an incredibly rewarding listen.

I have only read to page 10 and I’m already in love with this book so I encourage people who like poems and who like to read books to read this book because it is very emotional serious and some people can relate so I think it would be a great book for some people.
Dull
Long and dragging.
Clap When You Land
What a storyteller. The writer’s ability to transports the listener into the moments was exquisite. The readers, wow, the author being one, provided the storytelling authenticity, embracing the passion of an ethnic culture of intense depth of family. Back to back, listened to Elizabeth Acevedo’s work, The Poet X and now Clap When You Land, both 5 stars.
