Reggie Westgate is just another hard-boiled gumshoe living and working in post-war Hollywood. He doesn't even keep books because so few of his clients can pay. He just wants to help people. Then a local politician hires him to handle a blackmail case, and Westgate finds himself involved with more than simple extortion.
