Publisher Description
If you’d asked me a week ago, I would have told you that the best cupcakes were dark chocolate with chocolate cream cheese icing, that dancing in a crowd of magic wielders — the Adept — was better than sex, and that my life was peaceful and uneventful. Just the way I liked it. That’s what twenty-three years in the magical backwater of Vancouver will get you — a completely skewed sense of reality. Because when the dead werewolves started showing up, it all unraveled … except for the cupcake part. That’s a universal truth.
Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic is the first book in the Dowser series, which is set in the same universe as the Oracle, Reconstructionist, Amplifier, Archivist, and Misfits of the Adept Universe series. While it is not necessary to read all the series, in order to avoid spoilers the ideal reading order of the Adept Universe begins with Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic (Dowser 1).

See AllGreat plot but…
The plot was great and drew me in. I had to push through the book to finish. It erked me every time the narrator pronounced been as beeyn and again as agayn. It happened often enough that I considered not finishing the book.
5⭐️ story, 5⭐️ narration
I need the next book immediately! I cannot believe it just ended right there. Ending, but not. I cannot wait to start the next book.
People are upset about the Canadian accent of the narrator. Honestly, it’s not that big of a deal. Maybe I’m used to it from growing up in the Midwest, but seriously, these people sound like petulant middle schoolers. Get over it. It’s not that big of a deal, and not incorrect in her region. Chill. I heard no one comment on Mum instead of Mom, but I guess that’s acceptable to snobby American ears for some reason.
Solid Story
While others were not happy with the accent of the narrator. I enjoyed this book quite a lot. I did feel the main character was a bit slow but by her own admission, she wasn’t the brightest light bulb. 🤣😂🤣
