When Emma finds an old letter in a library book she is instantly intrigued, but through her research into the origin of the letter she unwittingly opens the door to danger. What she finds makes her curious about links to a current political candidate and makes her a taget for far-right extremists. As her life starts to unravel around her, she tries to take steps to protect herself, but the risk is not always where she would expect to find it. She loses her job as a librarian, is forced to give up her apartment and sinks further and further into a solitary existance on the edge of society. An innocent excursion turns into a confrontation with those who see her as a threaat, and she is forced to take a calculated risk to get away from threats, but by doing so she ends up in a nearly hopeless situation. Walking along a lonely road on a winter evening, soaking wet and shivering with cold, Emma is forced to reconsider how long she can last without help, and when a stranger offers her a ride she takes a leap of blind faith into the unknown.
