Rex Braden is wealthy, hard-working, and fiercely loyal. Sweat at his brow, he works the family ranch by day, then kicks back at night with part time lovers who require nothing more than his physical presence a few times each week. But that was before. Before Jade Johnson, the daughter of the man his father has been feuding with for over 40 years, moves back into town.
After ditching a horrific relationship - and her veterinary practice in the process - Jade Johnson returns to the safety of her small hometown and finally finds her footing. That is...until her horse is injured and Rex Braden comes to her rescue. The last thing she needs is a bull-headed, too-handsome-for-his-own-good Braden complicating her life.
Despite the angry family history, sparks fly between Rex and Jade, and attitudes follow. Fifteen years of stifled, forbidden love stirs a surge of passion too strong for either to deny - and the rebel in each of them rears its powerful head. Loyalties are tested, and relationships are strained. Rex and Jade are about to find out if true love really can conquer all.

Rex Braden and Jade Johnson have loved one another since high school. A 40-year feud have kept them from exploring their feelings for each other. When Jade moves back home, their loyalty to their families keeps them on edge whenever they run into each other. One night when they happen to be at the same bar when a guy Jade accepted a ride home from becomes too aggressive, Rex steps in. This is the beginning of their forbidden love story. As they begin to date, keeping it a secret from their families is hurting them both. When they finally come clean about their relationship, will the feud between their families keep them apart or will they decide their love is now the priority with or without the support of their families.
Rex and Jade are explosive together! Another wonderful story!
This is a Hatfields vs McCoys type story. We have two feuding families and no one knows why except for the two fathers and neither will discuss it. And don't you dare embarrass the family by going against their feud. But that is exactly what Rex and Jade do. They can't help themselves.
These two have been in love with each other since they were teenagers. But neither one of them would go against their fathers. Fast forward 15 years ... Now they can't help themselves and nothing is going to stop them from loving each other.
When the confrontation occurs between the two families, what will happen? Will Jade and Rex be able to be together? Will the feud be resolved?
I love BJ Harrison's version of Rex. He's a rough cowboy with a chip on his shoulder most days, but he also has a sensitive side that most people don't get to see. I can' wait for more Bradens and to see what happens with Jade and Rex.
Love Knows No Boundareies
Destined for Love: Rex Braden by Melissa Foster
Narrated by B.J. Harrison
I read the book and listened to the audio book. I am a fan of B.J. Harrison. His tone and inflection add so much to an already great story.
Rex Braden and Jade Johnson could never act on their mutual attraction since their teen years due to the ongoing family feud akin to the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s. Neither even knowing what caused it in the first place.
Rex is the consummate cowboy, dark good looks, rugged, strong, loyal and full of passion. Jade is a raven haired beauty, a veterinarian who loves with all her heart. Both are close to their families, and neither would ever want to hurt or disappoint them.
When Jade returns to her family home, right next door to the Braden’s it’s inevitable that they would run into each other. Rex fights his attraction out of loyalty to his father, the man he measures all others, including himself, against. That high standard causes Rex no small amount of inner turmoil. But as love and the fates decide for you, Rex is unable to resist the pull of love. Being forced to sneak around and hide their relationship puts undue strain on the young lovers.
The love they tried so hard to deny becomes the binding that will keep them together, Taking an “us against the world” attitude, Rex and Jade risk losing their families to be together. The showdown is heartfelt, moving and in the end, what you’ve come to expect from a a Melissa Foster book.
This is one of my favorite Melissa Foster book and now audiobook too. B.J. Harrison does an excellent job - as always - of breathing life and diversity into these characters.
Five stars for a heart warming listen!
