James wrote them as descriptions of middle-class life in Ireland, but in each story one or more characters has an "epiphany," - a moment where the character has a speical moment of illumination. Many of the characters in these stories later appear in his novel, Ulysses.

Clear, expressive reading of Joyce short stories

At the current price of under $4, this collection of James Joyce’s famous short stories is terrific value. The narrator puts immense effort into speaking clearly and “with expression”. The result is a thoroughly enjoyable presentation of some of the best Irish prose.

The only downside is the narrator’s wincingly bad “Irish” accent that tends to flip randomly between the American and Irish pronunciation of such common words as “halfpenny” and “shone”. I understand that this annoys some listeners more than others – and is my only reason for giving it fewer than five stars.

Joyces Dubliners

The reader unfortunately butchers many Irish references and place names which is a major distraction for anyone from Ireland. Would have been much better using someone Irish.

Good stories

Well done verson of these classic stories. Reader is either an Irishman who picked up some American pronunciations or an American doing an Irish accent because every once in a while he come out with with an American pronunciation of a word or phrase.
Still gave it five stars though because stories were great and reading was very good in spite of those occasional
lapses.
