"[Greene] develops one fresh new insight after another...In the great tradition of physicists writing for the masses, The Elegant Universe sets a standard that will be hard to beat." --George Johnson, The New York Times Book Review

In a rare blend of scientific insight and writing as elegant as the theories it explains, Brian Greene, one of the world's leading string theorists, peels away the layers of mystery surrounding string theory to reveal a universe that consists of 11 dimensions where the fabric of space tears and repairs itself, and all matter-from the smallest quarks to the most gargantuan supernovas-is generated by the vibrations of microscopically tiny loops of energy.

Green uses everything from an amusement park ride to ants on a garden hose to illustrate the beautiful yet bizarre realities that modern physics is unveiling.    Dazzling in its brilliance, unprecedented in its ability to both illuminate and entertain, The Elegant Universe is a tour de force of science writing-a delightful, lucid voyage through modern physics that brings us closer than ever to understanding how the universe works.

Great writing, terrible narration

The subject matter and the writing here are fantastic. It's stuff that requires multiple listenings to really grasp fully. Unfortunately, the narration is so devoid of life that one loses all but the most basic sense of wonder born of the text. At times, the narrator reminds one of one of those human-sounding text-to-speech readings done by computers. It's just terrible. Laborious to listen to. What a shame for such worthy subject matter.

Too expensive!!!

I love Brian Greene and I really want to buy this but I it's too darned expensive. I might pay half what iTunes charges... 30 dollars is too much to spend on an Ebook, especially for an unemployed musician like myself... Please lower the price!!! Doing that will increase the # of downloads for sure; and I know Brian Greene would be happy making less money if more people were discovering his theories, having amazing epiphanies, and being wonderfully inspired!

Great Book, what's it sound like?

I own and have read the book, I have not heard this audiobook though. Cut the price in half, show what the narrator sounds like, and I may add this to my collection.
