Publisher Description
Endgame, the explosive book from longtime royal journalist Omid Scobie and author of the international blockbuster Finding Freedom, is a penetrating investigation into the current state of the British monarchy—an unpopular king, a power-hungry heir to the throne, a queen willing to go to dangerous lengths to preserve her image, and a prince forced to start a new life after being betrayed by his own family.
Queen Elizabeth II’s death ruptured the already-fractured foundations of the House of Windsor—and dismantled the protective shield around it. With an institution long plagued by antiquated ideas around race, class and money, the monarchy and those who prop it up are now exposed and at odds with a rapidly modernizing world. Relying on his vast experience as a royal reporter and over a decade of conversations and interviews with current and former Palace staff, trusted friends of the royals and even the family members themselves, Scobie pulls back the curtain on an institution in turmoil to show what the monarchy must change in order to survive.
This is the monarchy’s endgame. Do they have what it takes to save it?

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Fans of The Crown, hold onto your hats. This is the ultimate tell-all about the British royal family in the chaotic aftermath of the queen’s death. Longtime reporter on the royals Omid Scobie digs into everything the family’s done in recent years to rejuvenate their reputation in the wake of Harry and Meghan’s departure and the widespread dislike of King Charles—and it isn’t pretty. From Camilla quietly encouraging attacks on Prince Harry in the media to Kate Middleton’s obsession with Meghan Markle’s popularity, Scobie brings forward new, previously unreported anecdotes about the royals’ need to control public perception. And just as fascinatingly, he also breaks down what all this means for the future of Britain’s monarchy. He narrates the book himself, and you can hear how deeply familiar he is with this subject matter. This listen might just change the way you picture the Windsors’ place in the 21st century.
Customer Reviews
Abolish the Monarchy already!
The author was too nice to a group of parasites who do nothing but look their noses down on far better people and foolishly believe they deserve what they have.
Love it. Must listen after Spare! Sad
Explains a lot and makes sense to read this after Spare.
Some missed opportunities
First the author's narration is spotty meaning he drops words or turns from the Mic or something so you miss words here and there. Also, was hoping for a bit more unbiased writing to provide a more balanced narrative. Like in profiling the cost of the monarchy to Britain and how much money the family has I was curious about how many people are employed by or whose livelihood is affected by the monarchy. So it's a bit hit or miss for me overall.
