Emma Matrixa ,

Very good, accessible and well written.

This was the first book I bought when I got the idea of learning to play poker, but I also bought few other Poker books by other writers. I want to say, that I didn’t know anything about poker when I bought this book, but from the description this seemed like a good choice, although I had really no way to know that. I had played Texas Hold’em handful of times in my younger years, just with friends for fun and never for money. I didn’t know the terms used in poker so I found myself constantly looking up on Google what they meant as I was listening to this book on audiobooks. When I bought this book, it came with free access to Alton’s video training sessions. When I signed up, Alton was kind enough to contact me, because I was having a bit of a hard time accessing the classes. I told him I was struggling with the poker language and he told me that I should first read his book “Master Micro-stakes Poker” (or another book not written by him which I didn’t get, so he wasn’t acting solely out of self interest, which I appreciated). I did buy his “Master Micro-stakes Poker and it was absolutely the right choice. So if you are a beginner like me, I highly advice you to start with that book, and you will have a lot easier time with understanding this book after you read that one.

I am 61 years old, so my idea of poker players was “shady people playing in grimy basements” lol. Today, nothing could be further from the truth. Alton Harding as many of his fellow poker players are highly intelligent and sophisticated people. Both of his books, I have read are extremely well written and well structured, I would recommend to anyone that is starting out, to read and reread these two books, because in order to be able to even start playing poker in these days, you have to have some fundamental knowledge of Poker game play. Even with that knowledge under your belt, you are still going to loose - often - so you have to grind on the low stakes tables for a long time, every day, for few hours if possible in order to get better. But having a fundamental knowledge of “poker theory” makes a big difference for you, even at the bottom beginners level. It gives you an edge.

I have bought other books about Poker, but I would recommend Alton Harding’s books on poker over other books for beginners, because his writing is very clear and there are no ambiguities in his writing. I don’t know if this is because he has an editor or is simply a better writer than distinguished poker players (who’s books I have bought) that have written books about poker, his books are considerably better written, better organized and easier to emerge the knowledge he has to offer. So I highly recommend these books over other books, so you don’t have to spend too much money in the beginning, like I did, to try to figure out the best way to start out learning Poker. I am very happy with the purchase of Alton’s two books and it so well wort it. I am also grateful for his generosity to include free video clases with both these books. Honestly investing in Alton Harding’s books felt for me, like winning a huge Poker hand.
