If you are in the midst of great soul-sorrow, this book is written for you by someone who has been there too. Christians are often afraid to put language to deep suffering. It doesn't seem "holy" to outwardly grieve our losses, to lament our afflictions, to put up words like modern-day dust and ashes. This book is Sydney Anne Bennett's humble effort to sit beside you in the darkness and say, "I know. I feel it too. Let's go to Jesus right now, for we have nowhere else to go."
After becoming disabled just two weeks after her honeymoon, Sydney was forced to reckon with a body that changed overnight and inhabit a faith that no longer fit tidy answers. Diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)--a condition that disrupts the brain's ability to send correction signals to the body—Sydney now lives with daily seizures, mobility loss, and chronic pain.
Fearfully and Wonderfully Broken is not about overcoming disability. It is about learning to live truthfully before God and others with unresolved grief, humiliating dependence, and lingering limitations. It is about recognizing that faith does not resolve all questions neatly, and that dignity, courage, and steadfastness may remain even when independence disappears. God is present in bodies that no longer work as they once did. His presence makes broken things fearful and wonderful.
This book is the companion Sydney wanted to have when she first became sick. Whether you are struggling with physical pain, disability, or illness, or are working through chapters of grief of a totally different kind, the answer to pain is always the same: Jesus will redeem your brokenness. He is building something—something fearful, yes. But also something wonderful.

The Book I never knew I needed!!
I met Sydney via Instagram as I was desperately searching for someone who was experiencing all of these crazy symptoms that I just woke up with one day. I would go to the Doctor and they wouldn’t have any idea as to why my muscles were spaaming, or why I all of a sudden lost feeling from my waste down and couldn’t walk, short term memory loss, loss of words, passing out, seizures and severe pain , fatigue and anxiety. I reached out to Sydney and she was so extremely kind and supportive of me and answered my questions which helped me help my Doctors finally figure out that I too have FND. I had so many questions that Sydney had the answers to, more so than the Doctors. It’s been a long 5yrs of living in a body that isn’t mine and I have no control over what it does but I’m getting better at reading it’s signals and knowing when a seizure is coming and things to avoid all together. I was totally lost without any hope of ever fining out what was happening within my body until I met Sydney and she was able to shed some light about FND and the symptoms that it causes as well as how the symptoms are different in severity and how they present in each person. She has definitely helped me with so much in many positive things in our new life with FND and I thank God for bringing us together. It’s been an honor to watch Sydney finish college and graduate and have 2 beautiful little girls. She is an incredible Mom, Wife, friend, Advocate and most of all a follower of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who has gotten us through every single difficult day we have struggled through and we give thanks for that. Thank you Sydney for being brave enough to open up and share your story with us because so many of us thought we were alone and scared. Having you on our team makes life sweeter and knowing we can help one another with words of encouragement is so important. Thank you for taking time to write this incredibly important book that needed to be published so that others know they are not crazy and not alone in their journey with FND, God bless you and your beautiful family Sydney. Absolutely must read!!!
