Publisher Description
WHY? The most important questions anyone can ask are: Why was Jesus Christ crucified? Why did he suffer so much? What has this to do with me?
Finally, who sent him to his death? The answer to the last question is that God did. Jesus was God's Son. The suffering was unsurpassed, but the whole message of the Bible leads to this answer. The central issue of Jesus' death is not the cause, but the meaning-God's meaning. That is what this book is about.
John Piper has gathered from the New Testament fifty reasons. Not fifty causes, but fifty purposes-in answer to the most important question that each of us must face: What did God achieve for sinners like us in sending his Son to die?

Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die
Outstanding! This book will help open your eyes to the profound purpose the Cross plays in the life of a christian. If you want a deeper passion for Christ and to make Him your treasure, read this book.
Excellent in every way!
This book has been an eye opener for me, in light of scripture, which undoubtedly validates Pipers exposition. If your looking to plunge down deep into the mysterious death of Christ than look no further.
In response to the 2 star rating, I would have you know that it is your own claims which are unsubstantiated. Decades you say? That would actually make it a reliable historical document to any Near East Scholar. Each account of the gospels was recorded by the disciples of Jesus making it a first hand account, and thus valid as any other historical account. (The same cannot be said for the gnostic texts). Further, There are around 20 manuscripts that validate the various translations we have today. The most renown of them being called "The dead sea scrolls"
50 Reasons Why Jesus came to Die
A well written book - why the Jewish God - the creator of all - devised a way, unimaginable in the heavnly realm, - incomprehensible in the human realm - that restored fallen mankind to Himself - in one day.... we look forward to Zech 14:9 - "...and on the day Jehova will be one and His name shall be one.."
Love listening to this book while I'm driving.
