One of the best reads of 2018
Follow Me Back is book 2 in the Fight for Me series from Al Jackson. One again we are recipients of another amazing story by AL. For me, getting to read her stories, is comparable to listening to a great song, where the words just flow with the melody. WE are back in Gingham Lakes!!! In this story we get to meet the gorgeous and head strong Kale Bryant, dedicated to his job as a physician, but also belongs to a wonderful group of friends that have a bond that is unbreakable. But this beautiful, sweet man has demons, and his been running from them for a long time.
Enter Harley Hope Masterson, the beautiful and feisty owner of the coffee shop A Drop of Hope. Determined to make a better life for herself and son Evan, she's opened the quaint shop just up the road form the good Doctor's office.
After a chance meeting at a local tavern, Kale is stunned when he walks into the new coffee only to realize the beauty from the bar is the same woman behind the counter. Trying to get his bearings, he's enamored with the red headed beauty, he decides to ask to her to dinner, which she politely declines. But Kale doesn't give up easily, and when he sees something he wants, he goes after it, and he wants Hope with a fire he's never felt before. After another stop at the coffee shop, and deciding he wont take no for an answer, Kale offers her a night to get away from her complicated life. The desire she's feeling for this man, has her imagining what his touch would feel like, and decides he's worth it.
The chemistry between these two from the first time they meet, has every page they are together on fire!!! Kale agrees to one night with Hope, but after one night he needs and wants more, and has Hope day dreaming of a life that could never be. The attraction is to intense to deny, and the walls they both have guarding their hearts, chips away a little. But eventually reality sets in, and the past comes back to rear its ugly head for Hope and her son Evan!! Who knew one person could be so evil? Trying to be her protector from all the ugliness in her life, Kale tries to shield her the best he can, but he is also running from demons in the past, that he finds out unexpectedly involves Hope. Even the bravest of men have weak moments, including Kale which could possibly devastate Hope forever.
Al Jackson gives us a beautiful, sexy and at times heartbreaking story, that will pull at your heart strings, and never let go. I loved seeing Jenna the BFF to Hope, and Evan........those scenes with that young boy are some of my favorite moments in this story. I can't wait to see where AL goes next with Ollie's story. These characters are like family. I hope you love them as much as I do!!
