M laid down his pipe and stared at it tetchily. “We have no choice. We’re just going to bring forward this other chap you’ve been preparing. But you didn’t tell me his name.”

“‘It’s Bond, sir,'” the Chief of Staff replied. “James Bond.”

‘Goode’ till the End

I’m a huge Matthew Goode fan. His voice brings life to Bond and the characters in this entangled web of secrets, lies, and high stakes details of being a 00 agent. I was left wanting more from the story in parts, but overall was satisfied with the story line of a promise of more Bond to come. Hopefully ready again by Matthew Goode!

The Origin of Bond, James Bond

The thought appealed to me enough to try yet another period Bond piece.

The story is ok, but it lost my attention quite often. I also had trouble with the narrator. I listened several times to hear what Bond did before but couldn’t figure out what the narrator was saying. I was able to realize “bull” is ball, “shard” is shirt, but I had to work at listening to the book to understand it.

It’s been quite awhile since I read Fleming’s Bond adventures. I felt the author tried for a similar style, narrative, and voice, but it just didn’t appeal to me like the better Fleming Bonds did.

If you like period pieces and are looking to feed your Bond habit this book should help. Otherwise, I’d give it a pass. Definitely skip the audiobook unless you’re British.

Narrated by Matthew Goode

I actually enjoyed the story. I purchased it because I'm a fan of Matthew Goode. I'm wondering if this indicates who the next James Bond will be? Usually I am a book reader. I did enjoy listening to this on on my walks.
