"Fourth Wing will have your heart pounding from beginning to end ... A fantasy like you've never read before."?#1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout
Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros.
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.
But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away … because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.
With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.
She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.
Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom’s protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.
Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

Fourth Wing

The book is great!!! The narration is good until chapter 39. Chapter 39 the narrator changes and it took all I had to get through it. Thankfully it’s the last chapter of the book and relatively short. Hoping the narrator of chapter 39 is not hired for the second book.

Can’t wait for the next!

I don’t leave reviews often but am happy to on this one. Fast paced, detailed, lots of badassery as well as sizzle. Story line is reminiscent of Divergent but different enough to stand on its own - the dragons and magic certainly help to differentiate it and make it fresh. There are twists and turns that are pleasantly unexpected and well-timed.

I do feel like this book fits in the young adult genre if for no other reason that frequent explicit language and quite detailed sex scenes. Lustful thoughts and actions certainly play a big role, which some reviewers think makes it more hormonally adolescent, but I think fits right in with the college-age crowd. Since the characters are mostly in their early 20s, it seems pretty on point. If you think back to what ruled your thoughts in all situations at that age, I think you might agree.

The female narrator does have a few awkwardly placed pauses as others mentioned, however they were not nearly as frequent as others have commented. Generally, I thought she was pretty great. She usually has pretty distinct vocal characteristics for the different characters, and is very animated, vocally acting out different types of scenes with great utilization of speed, pitch, and inflection for dramatic effect.
I had more difficulty telling the characters apart in conversation with his narration than I did with hers. Though it is always hard for me to adjust to a swap in narrators when I’ve grown accustomed to hearing specific characters sound a different way with a prior narrator.

Ending was a shocker! - especially since I didn’t see it coming since I wasn’t physically turning the pages. Great cliffhanger.
