Publisher Description
Musicians Elvis Costello, Burt Bachrach, and David Johansen on this archive edition of Fresh Air. Since he debuted in 1979 with My Aim is True, Costello has been one of the most prolific and influential rock acts. His music has been praised for the wit and intelligence of his lyrics, and the inventiveness of the music. Musicians Burt Bachrach and Elvis Costello talk about their collaborative album, Painted From Memory. Singer and musician David Johansen was the lead singer for the 70's pre-punk punk rock band New York Dolls. Later he performed as Buster Poindexter, a pompadour tuxedo wearing lounge lizard swing bandleader of the band "Banshees in Blue." Now he has a new roots-music band and a new album of straight blues, David Johansen and the Harry Smiths. (Original Broadcast Dates: February 28, 1989, January 27, 1994, and December 23, 1998)
Customer Reviews
light on the costello
Terry Gross is penetrating and well-researched as always, unfortunately, this interview only features 15 minutes of Elvis Costello- the rest is David Johansen. Interesting, but no Elvis.
