Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe: A Novel (Abridged)

Publisher Description
Folksy and fresh, endearing and affecting, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is the
now-classic story of two women in the 1980s; of gray-headed Mrs. Threadgoode telling her life story to
Evelyn, who is in the sad slump of middle age. The tale she tells is also of two women--of the
irrepressibly daredevilish tomboy Idgie and her friend Ruth--who back in the thirties ran a little place in
Whistle Stop, Alabama, a Southern kind of Cafe Wobegon offering good barbecue and good coffee and all kinds of love and laughter, even an occasional murder. And as the past unfolds, the present--for Evelyn and for us--will never be quite the same again...

Customer Reviews
Yes, abridged - but you can’t beat Fannie’s voice
I agree that I would love to have Fannie Flagg (the author) read an unabridged version. But since she didn’t, I prefer how she captures the true environment of the story (rather than the heavy-handed drawls from readers of the other versions). Since she is the author, I trust the edits she made for this version. As a fan of the movie, I love Ms Flagg’s performance. I suggest reading the book, watching the movie, and/or listening to Flagg’s version of the audio book.
Not a good version
Purchasing this abridged version was a mistake.
I thought it would be better than the others because it was read by Mrs. Flagg herself, but I was wrong.
Wish I could get my money back to buy one of the unabridged versions.
