Charming New Look at Modern Magic
When I started this book, I wasn't sure if I would like it, but I got quickly pulled into Ree's world of weird and wonderful magic. I was a little turned off by the narrator's voice, but as more of Ree's personality was revealed, her snarky, slightly nasal tone really fit my mental image of her. Underwood did a great job making geek-based magic seem plausible, as well. Haven't we all wanted our own super power at one time or another? Although it's written in a tongue-in-cheek style, If you're a fan of comics, movies, or RPGs, you'll find something to charm you here.
Fun book, but audio is not up to snuff
I am listening to this book now, and while I am enjoying the book, the audio is pretty bad. It has the feel of an amature effort. I keep getting out of the flow of the book by the stilted reading. This was much less expensive than most audio books and it shows.
Don't waste your time.
This audio book is very hard to follow and I listen to audiobooks everyday. Everything is thrown at you without being properly explained, leaving the reader/listener confused about what is happening. If you like a strong plot with deep characters this book is not for you.
