Publisher Description
Less than 60 kids awaken on a distant planet. The colony ship they arrived on is aflame. The rest of their contingent is dead. They've only received half their training, and they are being asked to conquer an entire planet. Before they can, however, they must first survive each other.
Hugh Howey is the author of the award-winning Molly Fyde Saga and the New York Times and USA Today best-selling Wool series.

Was this a first year creative writing class assignment?
I am so sorry to write this review and I don’t mean to come across as cruel or intentionally unkind, but had there been at least one review describing this book, perhaps I would have saved $15.
I loved Howey’s book Wool and I loved his (very) short story Glitch, so figured his sci-fi disaster book about teenaged colonists stranded unprepared on a distant planet would be awesome (minus the teenager part, I love sci-fi and disaster stories). Considering how clever and imaginative Wool was, I thought Half Way Home would be engaging.
Maybe the story is engaging, I have no idea. I did not get very far into it because the writing is so littered with adjectives and adverbs, every sentence is cluttered and exhausting (muscles are never just muscles, they are "bulging and rippled” muscles, etc). If Howey took out half the bloated descriptions of every passing moment, I think the book would be cut by two thirds. Maybe some people find multiple qualifiers interesting and engaging, I just found it indulgent and distracting.
Sorry!
