“I’ve chased you across time and space, and you’ve never been able to get away.”

For Adeline Reilly, moving back to Seattle was supposed to be the perfect fresh start. With her flourishing career as an author, and the inheritance of her late grandmother’s gothic mansion, there is nothing to stand in her way.

But Adeline isn’t alone in Parson’s Manor.

It isn’t the angry souls haunting the hallways of her childhood home that Adeline fears–it’s the mysterious break-ins, roses appearing, and threatening messages that somehow sound more like eerie promises.

Adeline has a stalker.

Yet, she quickly discovers she’s not the first person in her family to fall victim to a shadow in pursuit.

Left behind are her great-grandmother’s haunting journals detailing the story of her own phantom, and subsequently, her brutal murder.

Parson’s Manor now holds more than just Adeline’s memories—it houses a grim future that could lead to history repeating itself.

If she doesn’t fall in love with her stalker first.

While not required, it is highly suggested to listen to the novella, Satan's Affair, first.

Author's Note: This book ends on a cliffhanger. For CWs, please check the author's website.

dark, intense, completely addictive

somehow the author manages to make a stalker so charismatic that you catch yourself thinking, "Maybe having a stalker wouldn't be so bad.”

Very Spicy & Very Dark—Reader Beware

This one is spicyyy! And dark. Very dark. Reader beware—this is not your typical romance. This is a stalker romance that goes to some genuinely disturbing places, and H.D. Carlton does not pull punches. If you have triggers, check them before going in.

The audio duet format works really well here. It makes the dialogue feel more natural and immersive, especially in a book like this where the tension between the two main characters is everything.

And Teddy's voice? Perfect for Zade. Absolutely perfect. Zade is this dark, morally grey, hacker-stalker who watches Adeline from the shadows, and Teddy's delivery captures that unsettling, magnetic energy brilliantly. There were moments where his voice genuinely gave me chills—in the best and worst ways possible.

The pacing is a little slow, though. That's my main gripe. There are stretches where things drag, and I found myself checking how much time was left more than once. The story could have been tighter, and some of the slower sections didn't add enough to justify their length.

That said, I really enjoyed the backstory of Adeline attempting to solve her grandmother's murder. That thread running through the book gave it more depth than I expected and added a compelling mystery element alongside the dark romance. It's not just about the stalker dynamic; there's a real story here with stakes and history.

As for the ending—without giving anything away—I'll just say it leaves you in a spot where you're definitely going to want book two ready and waiting. It's the kind of ending that makes you go "OH Noooo!!" and then immediately scramble for the sequel. Not a clean wrap-up, not a cliffhanger that leaves you screaming, but something in between that pulls you forward.

Overall, this one is a 4/5 for me. I'm not disappointed, but I'm not overly enthralled either. It's good—really good in places—but it didn't completely capture me the way I hoped it would. The darkness and spice are done well, the narration is strong, and the mystery element is engaging. The pacing just held it back from being something I'd rave about.

Waste of time and money

After trying to wade through this for hours I finally gave up and deleted it. Naration like a 30’s radio show
