NOT ' - 'politics for dummies.'
It seems silly to “review” a book that is essentially a series of expanded lectures on American foreign and economic policy - especially since Chomsky is well-known and perhaps not likely to be picked up on a whim by some unsuspecting reader. Yet it is exactly for that reader that I feel compelled to say something. This book is a very dense work that assumes a certain degree of scholarship on the part of its readers, e.g. - you may find yourself, as I did, having to refresh your memory on such concepts as ‘economic liberalization’.
While I don’t necessarily agree with Chomskys’ P.O.V. on everything, his assessment of the effects, if not the intent of American foreign and economic policy is clear, thought-provoking and accurate. The book is a wake-up call to complacency and tolerance of a status quo that is stacked against the hope of achieving even the most basic of universal human ideals.
This is one of the best-read audiobooks I’ve ever heard. Just perfect for the material.
It’s a great book, I highly recommend it - you’ll be a wiser person for having read and struggled with it.
