One of my favorites.
Of all the tales of the Malazan Book of the Fallen, I’ve listened to this the most. It’s beautiful as poetry. The story paints such a vivid picture of the ‘barbarian’ trope in the detail of the civilizations and societies. The story is riveting, haunting and as serious as the grave. I highly recommend this, even for newcomers to the series, because it can almost be a gateway into the world at a high point in the timeline that more or less stands alone from a decent bit of the previous installments.
And the narration is perfect. Somber, flexible, but always silky smooth.

The narrator is way too over the top.
