Publisher Description
Not all wizards were born to be heroes.
Things not to do when you find out you’re a wizard:
1. Do not destroy your apartment with magical fire. You WILL NOT get the security deposit back.
2. Do not form an alliance with the guy who is trying to murder you. This will end badly.
3. Do not drag the girl you’re desperately in love with into your wizard mess. You risk her watching you fail miserably.
4. Under no circumstances should you get in the middle of an epic magical battle. Death will happen. Lots of death and bad things.

Cute.
This is a very cute story. Funny, fast paced and entertaining. The narrator is adorable! Some unnecessary swear words, somewhat offensive, but not too bad.
Draws You In Immediately
This book immediately grabbed my attention and I felt the adventure in the tale. Overall I would put the story above average but didn’t blow me away. The story arc was good with funny moments and I didn’t predict every twist and turn. The charter development made me care about the characters, but a bit on the immature side. The world building was interesting, but had some minor holes in my opinion. Overall a good casual read
Got a kick out of it
I got a kick out of this book. I thought it was funny. To me it maybe leans a little more towards YA even though the characters are in high school but I didn’t mind. It gave me some major Percy Jackson vibes with a hint of Harry Potter with the whole “you’re a wizard!” and discovering magic is indeed real. I loved the idea of a cellphone that has any and all magical information stored on it with apps included. I mean, we are in the 21st century after all. The story moves at a steady pace from beginning to end. Although I kind of felt the battle was a little too quick to happen and maybe a little anticlimactic. It just seemed to happen too fast and not enough tension with the main villain. I’m not sure I completely trust Eric yet either. I’m curious to see how Bryant takes to his magical abilities and I definitely want to see what roles Devon and Elizabeth play in all this.
The narrator did a great job capturing the awkwardness of Bryant’s character. As well as Devon’s suave confidence and Elizabeth’s no nonsense take charge attitude.
