Publisher Description

Meet the Bellamy sisters, five young women who will do anything to save their siblings and keep the wolf from the door.

Lady Hyacinth Bellamy's plans were flawless. Until fate dealt her a hand she never saw coming . . .

Romance isn't for the plain, shy, and awkward—a painful truth that Hyacinth knows better than anyone. But Hy refuses to let anything or anyone stop her from living life on her own terms. Independence—and the opportunity to secure her family's future—is finally within her grasp. But then Hy crosses paths with a meddling duke and everything changes . . .

Sylvester Derrick, Duke of Chatham, is bored. Even gaming and debauchery have lost their appeal. And he's fed up with women who can't see that he's more than a title, a collection of scars, and unusual . . . appetites. Then he spots a young card sharp who is anything but boring. Clearly, Hy is the person who can make Sylvester feel something again . . .

It's not long before Hy and Sylvester realize they have more in common—in and out of the bedroom—than they ever thought possible. But is happily ever after in the cards for a man who has been broken by love and a woman who doubts its very existence?

Not good at all, doesn’t fare well for rest of series

This is probably my least favorite book by Minerva Spencer. I was very excited to start this series because this is her first Sibling series! The first book introduced us to the Bellamy siblings and it did a good job getting me excited to continue with this brood. However, this book in the series has made me reconsider whether I will continue it.

The premise of the story was interesting and I had high hopes for it. But the lack of flow between the chapters, the disconnect between the main characters that was filled in with gratuitous sex scenes, and the lack of continuity with the first book just made this whole book really unbearable to finish. Not to mention how anachronistic so many of the situations were in the book, even the dialogue was very modern.

One of my biggest gripes was the lack of continuity with the first book. You can write a standalone novel for a series but at least make it flow with the others in some way especially when it’s about a character you develop in the next novel--I just couldn’t get past the fact that in Phoebe, Hyacinth’s friend Charles died of consumption, and the author thought “oh let me make Hyacinth’s very ill friend Charles be alive and dying from consumption in the next book, and let him be a main character”. Like WHAT. She changed the last name but that doesn’t negate the fact that in the first book Charles was dead because let us not forget that Hy doesn’t have friends!! So what other Charles was this? At least explain that Charles so and so died of consumption and coincidentally Charles so and so is now dying of consumption, and instead of Hy only having one friends she has TWO and both were COINCIDENTALLY named Charles. And it’s just bad for your health to be Hy’s friend, I guess. The next inconsistency was mild compared to the one I mentioned, but was also annoying- in this book Hy left to London first and she went to events but was so exasperating to her aunt that a few weeks later Selina joined her. WHEN IN PHOEBE both sisters left together as Hy was going to be a companion while Selina was going to have a season, which is why they weren’t there when the MMC in Phoebe went to visit the Bellamys and  at some point visits the sisters he didn’t get to see. Just downright an awful read even if the MMC was charming and I was interested to read about a special needs FMC, just the writing and soul weren’t there from MS.
