A key to all mythologies (possibly)
The issue of sacrifice, however primitive it might seem to us moderns, won’t go away. Practically every human community is grounded in what Girard calls “the scapegoating mechanism.” Christianity, he argues, is the one religion that both unmasks this mechanism and shows a way out. Great, thought-provoking content, but this audiobook edition is dully narrated (think of the old Clear Eyes™ commercials with Ben Stein) and oddly arranged: Why put the Foreword and publisher’s info at tracks 21 & 22, rather than right up front? (Had I known beforehand I would have listened to these tracks first.)
