Publisher Description
From the acclaimed author of The Troop—a book that is “utterly terrifying” (Clive Barker). “Fans of unflinching bleakness and all-out horror will love this novel….Each new shock is freshly disturbing” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).
A strange plague called the ‘Gets is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forget—small things at first, like where they left their keys, then the not-so-small things, like how to drive or the letters of the alphabet. Their bodies forget how to function involuntarily. There is no cure.
But far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, a universal healer hailed as “ambrosia” has been discovered. In order to study this phenomenon, a special research lab has been built eight miles under the sea’s surface. But when the station goes incommunicado, a brave few descend through the lightless fathoms in hopes of unraveling the mysteries lurking at those crushing depths…and perhaps to encounter an evil blacker than anything one could possibly imagine.

Starts well... then falls flat
The Deep held a lot of promise at the beginning. Nick Cutter is masterful in his description and truly tremendous at detailing gore into words. I agree with some that there were some similarities with Event Horizon, but it is far from a rip off. And a good plot is a good plot. So I don’t have issue with that. What I did have issue with was the way the plot seemed to change course abruptly towards the end. I feel like if the Author had been able to extend and stay on the initial plot and storyline, this wouldn’t have fallen so flat for me. You’ll enjoy the first half.... then you’ll wonder why it took a wrong turn for a dead end.
TRULY CREEPY
Another great but disturbing story from Nick Cutter. It will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Terrible
The book starts off well and then nosedives into the ramblings of a mental patient. There are so many flashbacks and dreams that the plot is lost. There is zero character development. The main character whines and pines after his missing child throughout that it gives away the ending in the first 30 minutes of the book. Don’t waste your money.
