Danger lurks around every corner in this Jack Reacher thriller set in the desolate Arizona desert. After stumbling upon a strange car crash involving a mysterious female military veteran, Lee Child’s vigilante hero gets caught up in a quest to stop a paranoid crime boss. Lee and his brother and co-author, Andrew Child, turn this setup into a tense cat-and-mouse game, artfully building up the suspense as Reacher makes bold moves to entrap his target. With its gunfights and psychological twists—not to mention the bleak, hard-edged border town setting and the seedy, secretive characters who live there—Better Off Dead is a totally gripping listen. Veteran Reacher narrator Scott Brick delivers the Childs’ clipped dialogue and sudden bursts of violence with the perfect mixture of deadpan cool and icy menace. If the Tom Cruise movies have piqued your curiosity about this long-running series, this is a perfect place to dive in.

Better Off Unwritten
I found myself rolling my eyes and laughing as the book progressed. The characters are unbelievable and Reacher is made to sound like some super spy that he isn’t. In every altercation Reacher gets into he describes himself as some superhuman fighting machine with lines like “…a hit like that would have crippled the average man.” There are pages of useless descriptions that seem to just fill pages. At one point of the story Reacher is literally describing the color of the room and furniture. Why? It adds no value to the story. I only finished the book because I paid for it.
Better Off Dead
Not much of a story. 80% of the time there is fighting or killing or some kind of violence just for the sake of filling the pages. Not a good Reacher book at all. Had this been the first in the series, there would not have been a series....simply awful. Dont know if this is the result of a different writer or not. Try to like Scott Brick but he is way too dramatic and loud as the narrator, He sounds urgent at all times. Exhausting to listen to, Save your money.
Disappointing
ThenReacher series seems to have lost its momentum. This is the second book in a row now that was hard to finish. Tedious plot that barley holds together, and a main character who’s brain seems to have lost a step. Maybe it’s time to rethink Reacher and his journey some.
