Tur’s memories include flying in a helicopter around Los Angeles to capture major news events like the O.J. Simpson car chase and the violent aftermath of Rodney King’s murder, experiences that shaped her while she forged her own path as a journalist. She goes beyond her impressive professional exploits to cover emotional family stories, including her father’s gender transition, making for an exceptionally touching listen. As an audiobook narrator, Tur expertly blends the matter-of-fact tone of a seasoned reporter with her own witty, personal touch. Mandatory reading for all women journalists
I heard Tur on Fresh Air and was intrigued by her story and candid way of speaking. As a younger WOC journalist, I came to this memoir expecting great anecdotes and career advice. I got that. What I wasn’t expecting was the most honest, unflinching account of pregnancy, birth and parenting that I have ever heard anywhere. Katy told me things I haven’t heard anywhere, even from my own sisters. As a result, I feel very a close kinship to her. Thank you Katy for your voice—we need it!
