Betty White’s impressively long career is even more inspiring when you hear her describe it in her own words. In this memoir written during her popular run on the 2010s sitcom Hot in Cleveland and just after her landmark appearance on Saturday Night Live, White pulls back the curtain on a career that began when TV was so new, it was all live. She gets real about her loves (animals; her late husband Allen Ludden) and her loathes (red carpets). We loved hearing White talk about her creative process and her friendships with other artists, ranging from John Steinbeck to Sandra Bullock. But our favorite stories were the ones where her goodness quietly shined through, like when she insisted on regularly featuring dancer Arthur Duncan on her ’50s variety show despite protests from station affiliates in the segregated South. White’s familiar voice infuses every anecdote with the same genuine warmth she exudes on screen.

A Conversation with a Friend
Simply perfect. It’s like sitting down for a chat with Betty herself, but she does all the talking. Such a lovely, lovely, lovely lady and this audiobook is a treasure, especially now that her wonderful soul has passed on.
Was like reading Readers Digest.
Not at all what I was expecting from Betty White, not funny and at all and very boring. I hate to say it but it really was just the thoughts from an old lady.
Ok but only ok
I didn’t really learn anything personally. Cute to hear her voice but not for 2+ hours.
