LONGLISTED FOR CWA JOHN CREASEY (NEW BLOOD) DAGGER 2011
Catherine has been enjoying the single life for long enough to know a good catch when she sees one. Gorgeous, charismatic, spontaneous – Lee seems almost too perfect to be true. And her friends clearly agree, as each in turn falls under his spell.
But there is a darker side to Lee. His erratic, controlling and sometimes frightening behaviour means that Catherine is increasingly isolated. Driven into the darkest corner of her world, and trusting no one, she plans a meticulous escape. Four years later, struggling to overcome her demons, Catherine dares to believe she might be safe from harm. Until one phone call changes everything.
This is an edgy and powerful first novel, utterly convincing in its portrayal of obsession, and a tour de force of suspense.
Customer Reviews
Excellent
Very good book. Very good narrator. Highly recommend.
TERRIBLE AUDIO!!!!!
I’ve read this book many times and it’s amazing, but I wanted to try something different and listen to someone reading it to me. I could only get to page 15 and I just couldn’t take it anymore. The Karen Cass audio speaker on this is not suitable for this book. It was definitely throwing the book off and she was supper upbeat to this suspense and intense book, at inappropriate times throughout it. Not only that, but the audio doesn’t match up with the book. There were so many times that I would get lost in the lines of the book because the audio lady would add in words/phrases or completely not read a sentence that’s published in the book. I will end up getting a refund because I can’t even listen to this audio. What a waste of time.
Good book, terrible narrator
This was the first book that I have listened to by Elizabeth Haynes. I am a thriller addict and this story was interesting although the main character is really pathetic which made it difficult at times. The narrator though was terrible, she sounds like the host of "so you think you can dance." Imagine her cheerful voice narrating and that's what you get. Way too cheery for such a grim story. Also some of the english slang is lost in translation. If you understand English slang and like a cheerful voice reading a grim story, then this is a good one for you.
