Publisher Description
For decades, singer-songwriter Linda Chorney played bars, resorts, and anywhere a girl and her guitar could make a buck—all the while scoping the audience for true love and a big record deal. She got a few bites, but then middle age barged in—"how dare you!"—serving the gut punch that she'd missed the boat and was hurling toward her personal nightmare: single, on a cruise ship at eighty, singing Jimmy Buffett tunes in Depends.
Then everything changed at a gig on top of Vail Mountain, when Linda spotted a DILF singing the lyrics to her songs. Enter Scott—"Oh no! A Yankees fan from Jersey?!" He'd already fallen hard for Linda's music, and soon fell in love with the woman behind it—a freaking Red Sox fan from Massachusetts.
He urged Linda to submit her sixth album for a Grammy. She smirked: “What am I gonna go for—Best Menopausal Music?”
Spoiler: She becomes the first truly independent artist nominated for Best Americana Album—competing with legends— and all hell breaks loose. And that's just the tip of the tale when this DIY underdog rattles the system.
The Good Ol’ Boys come out swinging. But y'all don’t mess with a Masshole—duh. What follows is a righteous showdown: The Gatekeeping Goliaths vs. one guitar-wielding Cinderella, armed with f-bombs, true grit, and sheer wit. So begins Linda's wild ride to infamy and misfortune.
Your backstage pass awaits to a music memoir with a stranger-than-fiction third act. From soul-baring vulnerability to rage to charmingly juvenile humor, this is an inspirational story about love, heartbreak, wins, losses—and how ya handle it. Narrated by Linda, bursting with spontaneous voices and song, this audiobook proves that success isn’t always about reaching the top. Sometimes it’s about mooning the bad guys from a cliff, hanging on for dear life— and surviving the climb.
A must-listen for fans of true stories, music memoirs, strong female voices, independent artists, and behind-the-scenes drama.
Customer Reviews
I Didn’t Want It To End!
I didn’t want It Ain’t Over Till the Indie Sings to be over! No one has a story quite like Linda Chorney’s, and no one but her could tell it in such an engaging and entertaining way.
I laughed out loud (SO many times), teared up during the more difficult chapters and even danced along to her fantastic original song clips. From start to finish, I was completely absorbed in her remarkable journey.
Anyone who has chased a dream ––especially independent musicians, to whom Linda dedicates this book—will relate to her stories of life on the road, the relentless hustle of sustaining a career in the music industry, and the emotional highs and lows that come with dedicating your life to your craft.
The behind-the-scenes stories of her two hard-fought, well-earned Grammy nominations are especially compelling. Every listener will cheer for Linda, as I did, and be amazed by her courage, determination and unwavering perseverance.
Linda Chorney is a true original—and both she and her audiobook are winners. I absolutely loved it.
Unsung Indie Heroine’s Amazing True Story of Overcoming the Odds
I finished this audio book a few days ago. And I listened twice to the last 5 chapters too.
I read the hardcover book when it first came out. It’s an amazing story to hear first hand as an audio book. It’s a serious book, but told with fun, pixie-ish cartoon voices and a great story too.
It was hilarious. It was tragic too.
And the voice - Sybil’s voice - is funny and frightening. OMG. It’s an ear worm.
Rocked by hilarity and tragedy too.
I keep thinking this is real? Don’t you folks (a few of the Americana Wing bad guys) get it?
This really happened to her. She put in her dues all these years in clubs, and ski and beach resorts, plus driving cross country to gigs in her silver Prius.
It’s an adventure! This is an incredible feat to achieve as an Indie Grammy nominee.
(And falling in love too….)
I was charmed, entertained and hoping for the triumph of the independent musical artist.
Linda Chorney tells her story powerfully and with fun!
This is a triumphant true tale for all indie music artists.
Biased as I travled shotgun... Biased as I traveled shotgun... But talent is undeniable.
A mesmerizing journey that transcends the traditional audiobook experience. The fusion of powerful storytelling and musical brilliance creates something truly special—a testament to indie artistry at its finest. The raw honesty about battling industry gatekeepers resonates deeply, while the professional production quality elevates every moment. This 2x Grammy-nominated artist doesn't just tell her story—she invites you to feel it. A must-listen for anyone who appreciates authentic voices and the courage it takes to challenge the system. Simply extraordinary.
No one can question why she was nominated for 2 Grammys, but why she did not win!!!
