Publisher Description
Absurdly logical, mercilessly real, gathering its own tumultuous momentum for the ultimate brush with commodity training, JR captures the listener in the cacophony of voices that revolves around this young captive of his own myths. The disturbing clarity with which this finished writer captures the ways in which we deal, dissemble, and stumble through our words - through our lives - while the real plans are being made elsewhere makes JR the extraordinary novel that it is.
Customer Reviews
Genius performed brilliantly
Flat out great. And as told by mr Sullivan, actually quite accessible and delightful. This is an hilarious and unmissable masterwork of 20th century literature and is way overdue for serious contemporary contemplation and reassessment. If you’re unfamiliar with Gaddis, and specifically this novel and the Recognitions,, I envy you. You’re in for a real intellectual treat.
The Easier Way
Nick Sullivan should get some sort of award for his terrific work unscrambling "JR". Parts of the book are a tad long -- Gaddis sometimes tells the same joke too many times -- but the characters are indelible and I think about them quite a bit after having finished the novel. Go for it!
Perfect for Audiobook
Nearly perfect. Nick Sullivan's reading makes an extremely challenging novel digestible and fun.
