This book is well deserving of the Pulitzer Prize; the writing is excellent and it was like watching a movie in my mind. The insight to both sides is deep and I felt I lived the Civil War at Gettysburg from two perspectives. If you are not much of a Civil War buff, but want to learn a little more of the history on both sides, as well as learn about what happened at Gettysburg, then this book is for you.
I have also read that some readers didn't like the narration from Stephen Hoye. He does voices for all the generals mentioned but I liked it. With so many different characters, it is tough to keep them straight unless the voice intonation, accent change. After I got used to it, I appreciated his ability to voice all the characters.
It was one of the few historical books to actually keep me engaged.
