Publisher Description

We don't get a lot of NBA superstars coming through little ol' Pine Hill, Texas. That's why everyone is all in a tizzy over the fact that the USA men's Olympic basketball team will be training here of all places before this year's Summer Games. Rumors about the players have been spreading like wildfire, and there's one man in the middle of it all holding a match.
Ben Castillo. NBA champion. Olympic gold medalist. Widely hailed "
"King of the Court."
The morning he walks into my dingy diner, I have enough sense to keep my head down and go right on wiping tables, pouring coffee, and serving up short stacks. A man who looks like that-superstar or not-has only ever meant trouble, and more trouble is the last thing I need.
If anything, he seems drawn to my indifference. His steely gaze pierces me behind the counter. My knees nearly buckle under the weight of his attention. But while Mr. Pretty Boy is probably used to snagging city girls with a smile, this gal is country strong.
I won't be some cliched convenience for him on his way through town.
So look over your choices carefully, Benny-boy. We serve up sides of hash browns here, not heartbreak.

I keep going back to this one.

I've read all of Rachel's books and keep coming back to this one (and Scoring Wilder). Birdie is strong and intelligent, stands on her own two feet, and still faces mistreatment by someone in a position of power because she needs her job to care for her ill grandmother. Ben is charismatic and down to Earth, loves her more with every meeting, and tries so hard to find a way to make it to her heart. This one's an emotional rollercoaster, and had me absolutely sobbing throughout. 5 stars for SURE.

Not your typical sports romance

I really enjoyed this book. I read a lot of sports romance and hadn’t realized until starting this one that I rarely ever read about basketball players. I did enjoy this book on audio. The story was great. It was not your typical Cinderella storyline that I see a lot with sports romance, and that was much appreciated. There is definitely a lot to unpack as this story moves along. Our hero, Ben Castillo, has some baggage in the form of a soon-to-be ex-wife and as a result, we get a bit of a grumpy/sunshine feel. Raelynn is such a pure heart. I loved that she is super smart and the fact that she had to give up her college studies to take care of her grandma gave an authentic feel to her monetary issues and really jives with the fact that she is super proud and independent. The twists this story takes are great and I loved the time jump as it allowed for the character growth of our heroine to occur outside of the relationship which is different than the normal sports-star-rescues-the-damsel-in-distress we typically get which starts to feel a little predictable at times. This was such a cute romance and was really enjoyable as an audiobook!! I will be looking out for more from this author in the future.

Very Cute!

Story: 4 ⭐️
Steam: 3 🔥 light smut (a few scenes spaced out)
Audio: 5 🎧

This story was very cute. All the characters were so lovable and I found myself rooting for all of them. This book was written in two parts which both offer very different tropes (that I won’t put here to avoid spoilers) but it kinda felt like 2 stories in one with the same couple. I think I enjoyed the first part more than the second part of the story.
