Publisher Description

Now a major motion picture, the first novel in the riveting Chaos Walking trilogy by two-time Carnegie Medalist Patrick Ness.

“Narrated with crack dramatic and comic timing.... The cliffhanger ending is as effective as a shot to the gut.” --Booklist (starred review)

Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks. Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him - something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl. Who is she? Why wasn't she killed by the germ like all the females on New World? Propelled by Todd's gritty narration, readers are in for a white-knuckle journey in which a boy on the cusp of manhood must unlearn everything he knows in order to figure out who he truly is.

Amazing book!

Highly recommend this book (and series) to everyone. I ended up buying this based solely on the title and cover photo. I had no idea what it was about. Best thing I ever did! I am a truck driver and I listen to audiobooks all the time and this has got to be in my top 2, currently only up against Ready Player One, by Ernest Cline. Both books making 10+ hours feel like 1, and way too excited to go back to work the next day. The narrator, Nick, does an outstanding job and this book is so well written. Sucked me in instantly and I went to lengths to continue with the rest of the series. This is basically my go-to audiobook in the case that I am ever without a new listen, but more often then not, I find myself just wanting to get emerged in this story. Get it, you won't regret it, ever, at any age! Best $11.95 I've ever spent.

Love the Book, LOVE the Narrator

The book is amazing even though I am not a Young Adult (I’m a grown-up). I appreciate a book with such an interesting plot line and none of the smut to sensationalize it! I will recommend this book to my teenagers with out any worry! The Narrator SO interested me I had to look him up to see the face behind the voice-he is so good! usually I listen on 2x speed because the narrators annoy me so much but I listened in real time to just hear his voice! Just downloaded book #2!
