The embattled Republic reels from the attacks of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who has marshaled the remnants of the Imperial forces and driven the Rebels back with an abominable technology recovered from the Emperor’s secret fortress: clone soldiers. As Thrawn mounts his final siege, Han Solo and Chewbacca struggle to form a coalition of smugglers for a last-ditch attack, while Princess Leia holds the Alliance together and prepares for the birth of her Jedi twins.
The Republic has one last hope—sending a small force into the very stronghold that houses Thrawn’s terrible cloning machines. There a final danger awaits, as the Dark Jedi C’baoth directs the battle against the Rebels and builds his strength to finish what he already started: the destruction of Luke Skywalker.

It is known...
These 3 novels (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command) are known as the Thrawn Trilogy. They are generally considered the absolute best of any of the Star Wars novels. They are written with the movies in mind, and so they present all of the elements that made the movies so iconic. Lightness, humor, drama, excitement, so on. These books are known to be great within the Star Wars fan base. The narrator is also known to be the generally preferred voice for the audiobooks. Others do well, but Marc Thompson seems to encapulate those Star Wars elements using his brilliant cadance. (you know, his voice gets a little higher, and he reads a little faster at the surprises and action scenes: that sort of thing) And I'm sure it helps that he can pretty much nail the more famous voices: Luke, Han ...even Lando. So as a Star Wars fan, I can recommend this book to any Star Wars fan. But I can also recommend this to any scifi fan as well.
Masterfully written, masterfully produced
Timothy Zahn, I say, is the Star Wars author of all Star Wars authors. Marc Thompson is probably the best voice actor I've ever heard. If you are a Star Wars fan, you owe it to yourself to read/listen to Timothy Zahn's five Thrawn books. You won't be disappointed.
