A BRAND-NEW NOVEL FROM LEGENDARY STORYTELLER STEPHEN KING!
SOMETIMES GROWING UP MEANS FACING YOUR DEMONS
The son of a struggling single mother, Jamie Conklin just wants an ordinary childhood. But Jamie is no ordinary child. Born with an unnatural ability his mom urges him to keep secret, Jamie can see what no one else can see and learn what no one else can learn. But the cost of using this ability is higher than Jamie can imagine—as he discovers when an NYPD detective draws him into the pursuit of a killer who has threatened to strike from beyond the grave.
Later is Stephen King at his finest, a terrifying and touching story of innocence lost and the trials that test our sense of right and wrong. With echoes of King’s classic novel, It, Later is a powerful, haunting, unforgettable exploration of what it takes to stand up to evil in all the faces it wears.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Sometimes being scared witless can be laugh-out-loud fun. Stephen King often lightens his horror stories with flashes of irreverent humor, and this fast-paced novel takes his comedic stylings to a new level. (But it still might give you nightmares.) Later is told from the point of view of Jamie Conklin, a young adult looking back on his unusual childhood. Some kids play with imaginary friends, but as a kindergartener Jamie talked to ghosts. Eventually, those supernatural talents get him mixed up in a dangerous case involving a murderous drug kingpin and soul-destroying demons. Seth Numrich’s droll delivery emphasizes the story’s humor without shortchanging the shivers, and he’s also great at underscoring the novel’s pulpy, hard-boiled style. Later feels like it must have been a joy to write—because it’s definitely a joy to listen to!
Customer Reviews
Read it sooner rather than LATER
I read King every now and again and always enjoy the ride. This book is no different!
The writing is fun and engaging. I don’t always care for WHAT is being said but I like how we get there…that is King in my opinion.
Narration is awesome! But mostly for the main character. The other side character voices get tiresome but I’m an audiophile and stuck with it because of the great narration we get on Jaimie our protagonist.
I would enjoy the hard copy or audiobook again!
